After a week of work experience, I would like to share my thoughts and experiences of working at Southampton Voluntary Services (SVS).
This week, I have experienced a variety of different roles and tasks. Firstly, I joined in with helping the team get ready and setting up their stall for the Mela Festival – a celebration of South Asian arts and culture. It was really nice to see all the different performances and the vibrant colours.
I’ve spent time with various members of the team getting to know what they do including attending the weekly volunteer drop-in session and learning about SVS help volunteers to find suitable positions – we supported 7 people!
I’ve helped Healthwatch Southampton complete their report on NHS dentists across the city as well collating data for other projects they are working on.
I’ve really enjoyed supporting the Business Support Team – again a variety of tasks including greeting people on reception and signposting to meetings rooms. I was able to get creative with Canva, which I’ve never used before and creating new pictures for display boards for the public.
Overall, I have had a fantastic experience and have definitely grown in confidence as the week progressed. The staff have all been lovely and welcoming. If I had to choose somewhere to do my work experience again or recommend to others – I would definitely choose SVS.
Thank you!
