Ollie Cole, who plays for Solent Sharks Wheelchair Rugby team, talks about the importance and value of volunteers within the sporting world
Volunteering with Solent Sharks has been an extraordinary experience, full of collaboration, creativity, and growth. Each team member brings a unique perspective and a set of skills that contribute to our shared goals. The camaraderie and respect within the team have fostered a positive environment.
Our volunteers are the unsung heroes of our endeavours. They dedicate their time, energy, and passion to support our initiatives, often going above and beyond to ensure our continued success.
Their contributions are invaluable, whether it’s organising social events, providing technical support or engaging with the community in outreach projects such as visits to Salisbury Spinal Unit or attending University Open days. The enthusiasm and commitment of all of them inspire us to strive for excellence and make a meaningful impact to the charity.
For me, playing Wheelchair Rugby has been a significant part of my journey….
It has taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. It has helped to improve my physical and mental health, plus provided a social outlet. It has undoubtedly given me a much-needed positive focus.
The lessons learned on the court translate seamlessly into our work, emphasizing the value of collaboration and resilience.
The club continues to grow, with 26 players paying monthly subscriptions, training sessions are always busy!! Consequently, we always need more volunteers to help out and support us at our ever-growing number of competitions and training sessions.
If this has caught your eye and you would like to get involved, please pick up the phone or send an email, we’d love to hear from you at 07572439581or solentsharkswrc@hotmail.co.uk!
